Son La Hydropower Plant
The Son La Hydropower Plant, inaugurated in 2012, is recognized as the largest hydropower project in Southeast Asia, with an installed capacity of up to 2,400 MW.
Ranked 9th among the tallest dams in the world, the Son La Dam stands at a height of 138.1 meters and has a crest length of 961.6 meters. The dam features a special steel structure that enhances its ability to withstand pressure, ensuring the project’s safety in the event of an 8.0-magnitude earthquake and simultaneous floods of 48,000 m³/second.
In April 2023, the plant reached a significant milestone of 100 billion kWh fed into the national power grid. The project also helps with flood control during the rainy season, provides water during the dry season, and promotes the economic and social development of the Northern Red River Delta.
Son La Hydropower Plant is proud to be a key national project, a symbol of progress in the renewable energy sector, and contributes to ensuring energy security.
